Canada Water Week

We need water to live. And, we want your stories.

It's the first ever Canada Water Week! And WUC is helping to make it a success.

WUC is always making sure that every time you turn on the tap, a clean, safe and reliable supply of water is there for you. On this website, you will find tips to help you keep our water clean, safe, and plentiful. It's as easy as turning off the tap while you're brushing your teeth, or placing sprinklers to water your garden, not the driveway.

You can share your conservation tips, ideas and stories by sending them to waterstory@wuc.on.ca. We'll start posting some of the best ones on World Water Day, March 22, 2011.

Why should we be worried about water when we live in one of the most water rich parts of the planet? Well, first of all, we can't survive without clean, fresh water. It's not an option. All life depends on it. And, with an ever-growing global population, the demands on the world's freshwater supplies are growing, rapidly. Water shortages now exist in many parts of the world, including Canada.

Here in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence River Basin, we boast 20 per cent of the world's surface fresh water. We are front line stewards on this significant life sustaining resource. So, it's our job to look after it. That's why WUC is part of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Water Conservation Framework. This international agreement among cities from both sides of the border is aimed at ensuring there will be a supply of clean, safe, fresh water, now and for all future generations.

WUC is a North American leader in water treatment using ozone purification. And, WUC works hard to replace old and leaking pipes so we don't waste any precious water.
