Public Information Sessions
In 2009, the Windsor Utilities Commission established strategic priorities for the period 2010 to 2014. One of the strategic directions identified during that process was to focus on public communication and education, and to operate the business in an open and transparent manner.
To that end, in April 2010, WUC undertook a series of public information sessions in each of the existing electoral wards in the City of Windsor. The purpose of the sessions was to:
- Provide the background for Commission strategic decisions
- Demonstrate that WUC actions are designed to ensure a safe and reliable water supply at all times
- Summarize revenues required to sustain the infrastructure replacement program
As evidenced in the presentation, it is clear that WUC requires additional funding in order to address the infrastructure deficit. Several rate options were presented, ranging from the status quo to a water usage rate increase implemented as a one time increase, over a three-year time frame, and over a six-year time frame.
The public was provided the opportunity to comment on the various water usage rate increase options, as well as the commencement date of any anticipated increase. The public attendees equally supported the three-year and six-year plans.
